Hours after arriving in the Caribbean island of the Dominican Republic, Nigerian Prophet T.B. Joshua has met with the nation’s President, Danilo Medina.
Pictures of the meeting at the Presidential Palace were published to social media by the Dominican Presidency, alongside an official statement acknowledging Joshua on his first ever visit to the nation.
The meeting comes days before the hotly anticipated Crusade the popular prophet will be holding in the nation’s capital, Santo Domingo.
“The event will gather more than fifty thousand people and will have the support of the evangelical community of the country,” a press release from the presidency stated.
The audience was chaired by Bishop Elvis Medina, who serves as a link between the government and the Christian community in the Dominican Republic.
Joshua was welcomed to the country on Tuesday 21st November by large crowds and a military escort.
The video of his arrival was broadcast live on Facebook and subsequently went viral, notching over 500,000 views in under 24 hours.
The free-entry crusade is set to hold on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th November at the Felix Sanchez Olympic Stadium, followed by a Pastor’s Conference on Monday 27th November.
Foreigners have been pouring into the country in large numbers for the event, which is set to bring a boost to the island’s tourism industry.
Joshua’s last foreign Crusade was held in Paraguay in August 2017, where he was decorated with the ‘National Order of Merit’, the nation’s most prestigious honour.
The cleric was in the news recently for his accurate prediction about the removal of Zimbabwean President Mugabe from office through military intervention.
His meeting with Medina has similarly made headlines in local Dominican media.
Medina, who has been at the helm of affairs since 2012, is the only Dominican President who descends from one of the country’s Founding Fathers.
