11th March 2004 was one of Spain’s darkest days as a co-ordinated terrorist attack against four commuter trains in Madrid killed 193 people and injured almost 2,000. Here is the moving account of one survivor and her remarkable road to recovery…
It seemed like every other normal day for Lorena. She sat nonchalantly in the train, preparing for another day of work at the National Bank of Spain. Then, everything changed. A deafening roar. Anguished screams. Enveloping blackness. Evil had struck in the cruellest, most callous of manners. “The event never left my memory; it was like living in hell,” she recounted, grimacing at the gruesome image of the blood-stained carriage seared in her conscience. She was the sole survivor in the carriage where she sat; her close friend and four-month old baby among the fatalities.
Although Lorena survived, the attack took a huge toll – both physically and psychologically. She was left without hearing in one ear and dependent on a wheelchair for mobility. A once happy life shattered; a once active mind splintered. “I developed rheumatoid arthritis, lost my memory, suffered urinary incontinence and became so depressed. I saw no reason to live,” the Spaniard explained. It reached a boiling point when Lorena attempted suicide to ‘escape’ from her ‘hellish’ reality. Death tried multiple times to snatch yet she somehow clung onto life.
However, when Lorena heard about the Emmanuel TV UK Revival, an ember of hope kindled in her heart. Accompanied by her Pastor, Andres Espinoza, she made the journey from Spain to Sheffield in search of a miracle. When the minister of God, Racine, prayed for her, what transpired next defies human comprehension. “I am the spirit of death! I want to kill her!” – a strange, unclean spirit spoke through her as the Spirit of God exposed the demon behind her situation. In one glorious moment, fifteen years of pain, hurt and trauma were washed away by the blood of Jesus!
“Immediately after my deliverance, I felt strength and energy,” Lorena, who walked from her wheelchair after her anointed encounter, excitedly testified. “My mind is clear, I can walk – even climb stairs – move my hands and feet and there is no more incontinence!” Miraculously, her left ear – which had been deafened by the noise of the bomb blast – immediately opened after prayer! Apart from physical healing, the paralysing fear she lived with since the attack also left after her encounter with Jesus. “I encourage everyone to have a true experience with Jesus,” she advised. “I have personally encountered Him in my life and I want others to also have that encounter!”
Pastor Espinoza corroborated her remarkable testimony. “She has suffered a lot but I am so happy for what Jesus has done in her life. She is now back to normal,” he said. Indeed, the age of miracles has not yet passed. The Miracle Worker is still alive. His name is Jesus Christ!!!
